Before the Estimate

What to have ready for your walkthrough

A short amount of preparation before the on-site visit can make the estimate more accurate. It helps to have a general sense of which rooms are involved, whether trim or cabinets are part of the scope, and any color ideas already in mind, even loosely.

None of this is required. Estimators are used to working through undecided details on the spot, including sheen options and whether existing furniture needs to be moved.

Six phases, from inquiry to sign-off

The ranges below describe typical patterns based on how our crews generally schedule work. Your written estimate will include figures specific to your project.

Phase 1 · Same week

Initial inquiry

You contact us by phone, email, or the contact form with a general description of the project. We typically respond within one to two business days to schedule a walkthrough.

Phase 2 · 30 to 60 minutes on-site

On-site walkthrough

An estimator visits the home, measures the relevant rooms, checks surface condition, and discusses paint, sheen, and any carpentry needs directly with you.

Phase 3 · 1 to 2 business days

Written estimate delivery

You receive an itemized estimate by email covering labor, materials, prep work, and a proposed start window. There's no charge for this step and no pressure to respond quickly.

Phase 4 · Varies by crew availability

Scheduling confirmation

Once you approve the estimate, a start date is confirmed based on current crew availability. A day-by-day plan is shared so you know what to expect each day of the project.

Phase 5 · Project-dependent

Prep, repair, and finishing work

Rooms are protected, surfaces patched and sanded, primer applied where needed, and finish coats added with drying time between applications. Trim or cabinet work is coordinated in sequence.

Phase 6 · Final day

Walkthrough and completion

The lead painter reviews the finished work with you room by room, addresses any touch-ups on the spot, and closes out the project once you're satisfied with the result.

What Can Shift a Timeline

Common factors that affect scheduling

Weather, for exterior work

Exterior painting needs dry surfaces and stable temperatures. Rain or unexpected cold can shift a start date by a few days.

Hidden surface damage

Moisture staining or soft drywall discovered mid-project can add repair time before painting can continue.

Material availability

Specialty colors or finishes sometimes require additional lead time from the supplier before work can begin.

Scope changes mid-project

Adding a room or trim work partway through naturally extends the schedule, and any change is confirmed with you before proceeding.
